tOAStjam launches a producers-only showcase basement with custom lighting rigs

Adelaide, SA — Here’s the rule: every track you hear at tOASt and jam session #1 was made by the person playing it. Six local producers, 30–45 minute sets each, nothing but original productions. tOAStjam is putting Adelaide’s underground producers centre stage at Low Life Basement Bar on Pirie Street on Saturday, June 27.

The lineup: STATYK, Doubtless, REE-SEARCH!, step, DV8, and TÅRUNA, plus support acts still to be announced.

This is a different kind of night from anything else on the Adelaide calendar right now. Most events are about curation — a DJ selects tracks from other people’s catalogues and builds a set from them. tOASt and jam strips that away completely. Every artist plays only their own music. That’s a higher bar and a more vulnerable position. You can’t hide behind a banger someone else made. Every reaction on the dancefloor — every head nod, every drop that lands, every moment that doesn’t — is a response to something you created. For the producers, it’s a showcase. For the audience, it’s a chance to hear what’s being made in Adelaide right now, not what’s being played.

The production goes beyond the music. Dan Monceaux — the lighting designer behind the bass stage at Let Them Burn and the last tOASt party — is programming intelligent lighting and visual displays custom-mapped to each artist’s set. The artists themselves are involved in the programming. In a 60-person basement, that kind of production density creates an intensity that bigger venues can’t match. Every light cue is deliberate, every visual tied to the music.
