Adelaide Hills, SA — After a successful inaugural edition in March, We Are Family returns for the Spring Edit — an afternoon-into-evening session at Sidewood Estate in Hahndorf. This is music as a component of something bigger. We Are Family isn’t a club night transplanted to a winery — it’s a food, wine, and music experience where each element is given equal weight. Chef Nick Filsell is handling the menu with wood-fired oven pizza and new seasonal offerings, Sidewood’s cellar door supplies the wine programme, and Maestro D curates the musical direction. The result is an afternoon where the music enhances the setting rather than dominating it — disco and house edits that work as well over a glass of wine at a table as they do on a dancefloor.
The timing is deliberate. Early November in the Adelaide Hills means the vines are in the middle of rapid shoot growth, canopy development, and flowering. The days are getting longer, the air is warm without being hot, and Sidewood Estate’s grounds — nestled on River Road in Hahndorf — are at their most beautiful. Starting at 4pm catches the late-afternoon light and carries through sunset into early evening. Five hours that track the day’s natural arc from sunshine to stars.
Sidewood Estate is one of the Adelaide Hills’ most respected wineries. The cellar door and grounds offer the kind of setting that turns a music event into something you remember for the atmosphere as much as the tunes. Maestro D — familiar to anyone who’s been to a Golden Years event or grown up in Adelaide’s rave and club scene — brings decades of MC and curation experience. His involvement signals a crowd that knows its music but also knows how to enjoy a Saturday afternoon without needing a 3am finish and a bass bin in the face.
