Adelaide, SA — Fresh off a sold-out first birthday with Haptic’s live cube set and Shaman Monster performance in May, Doof Techno strips it back for a locals-only mid-winter session at Ancient World. Seven selectors, no guest headliner, no gimmicks — just the Doof Techno family doing what they do best on a cold Friday night in July. PsyTech and hypnotic techno from 9pm until late.

The lineup: Accent of Sound, Floating Castle, Amorositie, Naiadsol, Kelly S, Sam B, and S4T. Several of these names have been on previous Doof Techno bills — Accent of Sound and Kelly S were on the Homegrown finale back in March, Amorositie continues to appear across Adelaide’s underground scene from DnB to techno — while Floating Castle and Naiadsol add different textures to the rotation.

As the crew themselves put it: it’s always special having guest headliners, but the locals-only events have a vibe of their own. There’s a looseness to nights where everyone on the bill knows the room, knows the crowd, and knows what Doof Techno stands for. No one’s playing to impress a visiting name. Everyone’s playing for each other and for the dancefloor.

The musical brief is tighter than the usual bush techno/psy techno spread — this one’s focused on PsyTech and hypnotic techno. Think driving, cyclical, trance-inducing rhythms that lock you in and don’t let go. In a dark room at Ancient World with no phones on the dancefloor, that’s a powerful combination. The no-phone policy continues to be one of Doof Techno’s defining features — no filming, no photography, just be present in the room.

That black-and-white flyer — weathered brick, creeping foliage, the Doof Techno hexagon — is the most stripped-back artwork they’ve put out. It matches the night: no frills, no headliner billing, just the core.
