After hearing all the excellent feedback about the last anthems, I was eagerly anticipating the next instalment, and I don’t think I was the only one either, from the look of the crowds from the time I arrived at around about midnight things were already in full swing and there was only more and more people coming through.
Not being from the generation of those who would of heard all these great tunes first hand I was very impressed with the styles and selections that all the DJs were playing. The lower room housed the “house” arena while the top “rave” arena was decisively more banging. The stage of the top arena of St Pauls had 3 massive smiley faces and an excellent line of lights on the back wall that was quite impressive and really suited the atmosphere of the night perfectly.
Of the DJs I was really there to see, Brendon was playing some of the greatest songs with a nice section of Ultra-Sonic and The Prodigy anthems towards the end of his set, I even managed to collect one his CD’s he was giving out, “In Retrospect - A Decade Of Dance 91/92”.
Mr S was straight after and he began to really bang out the beats on the sound system. It was around this time that I made my way to the “house” arena to see what sort of things Mal Chia was playing, I’m glad I came down as I got to hear some excellent progressive and trance anthems, Underworld “Rez” and Energy 52 “Café Del Mar” taking out the end of his set and the first few tracks of Reelax seemed to keep in the more trancy side of things.
At 4:30 Devious was on in the “rave” arena, so I made my way back up there and wasn’t disappointed, dropping many tracks that I hadn’t heard in along time, as the crowds slowly diminished, those who remained were treated to a fine show skills and some great songs, English Muffin “Blood of an English Muffin”, Felix “Do You Want Me” (and many other artists and songs that don’t come to mind were played and played well, lots of tricks and things kept the whole set very interesting and the dance floor moving.
All in all, a very impressive turnout from the Adelaide crowds supporting a locals only event and a great show put on by those involved (I think many people were very grateful for the free tickets given away), I can’t wait for the next instalment.
