This can be the spot on
anthems for all us motorbike lovers to exchange stories, ask questions, and talk pointless dribble about another type of road vehicle.
So are there any others out there?

Ive just invested in getting a 1988 Harley Heritige Softail. Its basically a Fat Boy but with different wheels. I go and pick it up on Wednesday. Come this weekend me and about 6 other Harleys are going for a cruise to Pirie and back through Clare and the Barossa. I cant wait. Going to spend alot of time and money on this baby i think.

still one day i will get another one ... jutsin, the r6 is high on my list too, but is likely more than a year away

Its going to be sweet. The only prob is that the boys i will be ridding with have like $30,000 machines. One is a fuel injected duece and another is has an S@S motor in it. Ah its all cool i have plenty of time to customise it. I already have by putting $900 pipes on it. Should be a good cruise. If i get any pics i will post the suckers

Yeah i had dirt bikes as a kid also, mainly due to living on a property up in the Adelaide Hills. Then when i moved down to suburbia, I bought my first road bike an RGV250..
I have lost too many friends in motorcycle accidents, that I am still struggling with the fact that I want another road bike. This makes it hard to deal with..
I Would probably buy a GSXR600 or an R6. but will probably buy a dirt bike towards the end of year as its a little safer... and there are no cars to deal with...

I know what you mean mate. There was one day that i nearly got side swipped twice within 5 mins in the Port. The secound nearly copped me but he nearly copped a boot in his door. After that incident i hardly rode. Mainly because it was a small bike been a 250 and me been a big bloke like 6ft2 it just didnt work. Ever since ridding a bike im a different driver on the roads for sure. I have mates that had accidents because of idiot drivers but thay have hoped back on the bike. I wont be going cruising through the city much, my bike is mainly for touring to country places. I have been to alot of places in S.A in car and i thought on a bike will be a different way to see our great state.
Dirt bikes are great fun! I used to own a Kwaka 250 4 stroke and the thing just keeped going. Pelican point used to get a hard thrashing during the weekends. Thats how i learnt to ride was on a dirt bike.
Any way people Ride Safe

I'm thinking a Honda CB250RR, or CBR250 - the former is more expensive, and purely for how it looks, but overall the latter still looks pretty hot.

id be happy on a vtr 250 or a cbr 250, maybe an RGV or GPX, not rela fussed.. it has to be 250cc to begin with anyways... so many good L plate bikes available now

Jan 17 2006, 02:39 PM
almost all those new 250's are dangerous - drop an inexperienced rider on something with that power-weight ratio and someone's gonna get hurt. in my humble and not-very-knowledgable opinion learners should not be allowed on something like an rgv or cbr cos they just go too hard and from my limited knowledge bikes like that have a nasty powerband that is not your friend while cranked over in a corner ...
i know it's boring but anyone who has not ridden a bike before should start with a cb250 (the bike parking inspectors are usually on) or the likes, or a trailbike that won't go over to within 15degrees of the road surface ...
anyone care to comment, or are we all immortal?

yeah, my trail bike has plenty of power and its a heap of shit. up on one wheel in no time, hehe.

Keep in mind that a bike will not crash by itself - it is merely on the shoulders of the rider.
CBRs and CB250RRs are suitable bikes as long as you're not a tool when riding them.
If you know how to apply throttle around a corner then it won't matter what sort of power the bike has.
Then again, what I've just said is taking a personal perspective of it - the majority of riders would not know or abide by the safest way of riding, so in a neutral way I do agree, but for me personally .. I don't class it as too much power.

me want power for pulling out of corners and the chance to wind the engine out on a straight flat piece of bitumen

Thay are changing the rules at the moment. Thay are going to change the system to power to rate ratio. So basically all the poket rocket bikes thay have wont be allowed to be used for learners but you can go up 600cc but as i said thay work it on power to rate. Its a pitty thay are doing that really as you can kill your self or seriously hurt your self doing 40 k's so really it doesnt matter if you have a wizz bang little poket rocket or a 50cc scoter the danger is there. What next curfews?

sounds like a worthy change to be considering in some respects - but in the end i have an unrestricted licence so hehehe ... there are so many things out there on the road to hit, from brick walls and cars to oil patches and gravel that we should all be very very careful out there on the roads and i in no way condone going over the speed limit
the fastest bike i have ridden was a ZX6-R and it rocked! made my suzuki across look like a scooter. i am now keen as mustard to get a 600cc sport bike but gonna be a while before it's a reality

I thought this was already in place as of November last year? That's what all the reading material the Motor Registry place sent me indicates, and overall it doesn't change a great deal. The vast majority of 250cc bikes (including CBR and CBRRs) meet the standards, it's only a few which don't.

An R1 especially will raise the front wheel with almost every gear change, so it's not that rare for it to happen constantly.
.. of course on an R1 you need to give it a little more throttle than in the clip you posted
